It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edward Peter McGroarty (Bethesda, Maryland), who passed away on February 11, 2024, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, James Anthony and Mary Anne McGroarty. He is survived by : his children, Patrick (Anne) of Fredericksburg, VA, Emmett (Mairead) of Bethesda, MD, Michael-Joseph of Rockville, MD, Mollie Calomeris (late Tom) of Lexington, VA, Brendan Ignatius of Portage, MI and Sean (Cristina) of Saint Louis, MO; and his siblings, Rosemary Ymzon (Ray) of San Diego, CA and Jim of Harrisburg, PA. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathryn Barrett-Gaines wrote a sympathy message

“They are family to us. I am sad to hear this. We grew up two doors down from the McGroarty family in Brookland, NE Washington. I went to school with his son Emmett, from Kindergarten through high school. Mrs. McGroarty walked us to Kindergarten. We kids watched Sesame Street on the third floor of their house as Mrs. McG made cookies. Now all of us kids are orphans together.”
