He was predeceased by: his parents, Gustavo Rivera Rosa and Emilia Rivera Cabrera; and his brothers, Emilio Rivera Cabrera, Milton Rivera Cabrales and Waldemar Rivera Cabrales.
He is survived by: his children, Carlos (Claudia), Lisa Margarita, Ricardo (Geeta) and Luis Gustavo, Jr. (María); his wife Arlene Frances Rivera; and his siblings, Ramón Rivera Cabrera, Néstor Rivera Cabrales, Myrna Rivera Acosta, Nyvia Rivera Cabrales and Abigail Rivera Santiago. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
