He was loved and cherished by many people including: his close friend Barbara McCoy; his sister Vernell McKnight; and his sibling's children, Victoria Smith Moore and Torrence Smith. He was also cherished by great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in memory of Russell V. McKnight.
