We announce the death of Julia Margaret Lohr Mertens (Chestertown, Maryland), who passed away on September 25, 2026, at the age of 91. Julia will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Julia will be remembered for the impact she had on the lives of those around her. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Julia will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture her life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Julia’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Harold Matthews and Ora Matthews (Whitford). She is survived by: her husband Charles Lohr; and her siblings, Katherine Phillips of Crownsville, MD, Rebecca Goode of Chestertown, MD, Joseph Luther Matthews of Louisianna and James Edward Matthews of Summerville, SC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Wesley Hall (501 E Campus Ave, Chestertown, MD 21620).
