He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Elwood Keefer Sr. and Mildred Ilene Keefer (Younker); his wife Shirley Keefer (Swain); his siblings, Harold Keefer and Donna Lee (Keefer); his siblings-in-law, Clyde Covert, John Rhodes, Darrel Atherton, Nancy Keefer (Hutzell) and Sue Pine (Clark); his nephews, Larry Lee II, John Rhodes, Jr. and Douglas Atherton; and his niece Darla Robinson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Brenda L. Keefer of Clear Spring, MD and Sandra Repp Baker of Montgomery, AL; his grandson Atlee Baker (Audrey) of Fort Wayne, IN; his siblings, Merle E. Keefer Sr., Bonnie Covert, Carolyn Shrader (David) and Connie Atherton; his brother-in-law Larry Lee; and his pets, Fargo and Ruby. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Blair's Valley First Church of God (13722 Blairs Valley Rd, Clear Spring, MD 21722).
His wishes were that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Doey's House, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
