He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Melva Ferguson; his children, Elizabeth Shaughnessy (Adam) and Andrew Ferguson (Francesca); his grandchildren, Drew Shaughnessy, Hailey and Alexander Ferguson; his stepgrandchildren, Ryan, Reece Stone, Ella and Rico Biggart (Steven); his siblings, Ned Wilson (Royal), John Wilson (Carol), Scott Ferguson (Margaret), Kent Ferguson and Catharine Burt (late Moody); his parents, Duncan Ferguson and Isabelle Hart; and also Jodi Stone (Robert). He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.

Bill was a voracious reader of about 40 books a year, sharing them with others before donating them to charity.
