He was predeceased by: his mother Bessie Getz; his brother George Getz; and his nephew Mike Getz. He is survived by: his sons, John P. Getz, Jr. and Chris R. Getz (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Meaghann of Gabriella, JC, Kyle and Sarah; his sister Ruth Gunkel (Lou); and his granddaughter Madison. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
