The passing of Janice Kay Eckard of Cumberland, Maryland leaves a void in the hearts of many, as we bid farewell to a loving soul who departed on April 30, 2026 at the age of 85. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Jesse and Zelene Chaney (Henderson); and her brother Richard Chaney. She is survived by: her children, Paige Mitchell (Shane) and Christopher Blake Eckard; the father of her children Donald Eckard; her sister Bonnie Murphy; and her grandchildren, Jeremy Rogers, Joshua Mitchell (Kaylie), Rebekah Mitchell and Sarah Mitchell (Zoe). She is also survived by her extended family, and many friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 9th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Scarpelli Funeral Home (108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD 21502). A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 9th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. The inurnment was held on Saturday, May 9th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Fort Ashby Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Janice's favorite charities. To celebrate her breast cancer survival, she avidly supported the Susan G. Komen Foundation (https://www.komen.org) to help find a cure.
