It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Smith (Damascus, Maryland), who passed away on October 21, 2025, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though her name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Shirley leaves upon the hearts of her loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of her spirit and the richness of her legacy.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Layton and Pearl Layton; her husband Robert F. Smith; and her sister Noreen Gordon. She is survived by: her children, Sharon Slagle (Paul) and Neil Smith (Joy). She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
