He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Marie E. Hess; his children, David D. Hess (Connie), Michael D. Hess and Karen A. Hess (Ron Atkins); his stepdaughter Jeanette Smith (Eric); his grandchildren, Christopher Atkins, Jessica Hinkle, Bethany Menas, Robert Menas, Jr., Noel Menas and Shaelyn Smith; and his great grandchildren, Bradley, Remus, Landon, Freya, Weston and Harrison.
