Nellie Mae Howell Obituary
Nellie Mae Howell (Long) left this life on Thursday, October 31, 2024 for her eternal home in Heaven.
Born in Lee County in the small town of Springville, VA to Walter Willis Long and Margie Virginia Baker on August 20, 1928.
Nellie lived a long and happy life filled with many wonderful memories. Those who knew her will remember her smile and laughter.
Her parents moved with their children to Easton, MD when she was just six months old. Here Nellie attended school and grew up.
At 17, she married the love of her life, the late John Monroe Howell. Together they raised their six children. While her children were growing up, she made many friends in the small community of Neavitt, MD.
After the death of her husband John, she moved in with her son Robert and his family. In 2006 she moved to St. Mark's Village where she loved playing Bingo at the center.
Nellie was the last survivor of a family of 16 children. Besides her parents, Walter and Margie, Nellie was predeceased by her 15 siblings; Albert, Homer, Floyd, Conard, Anna Belle, Frances, Charlotte, Dorothy, Ward, Beulah, Ruth, Helen, Robert, Mildred, and Clark, also one son, Ross J. Howell and five grandchildren; Teresa Lynn Howell, Stephen Howell II, Ryan Lee Howell, Tammy J. Howell-Smith and Susan Ann Lockhart, plus two great grandchildren, Jonathan Fisher and Jesse Adelle Willis.
Survivors include four sons; Robert Howell Sr. (Sandra) of Easton, Stephen Howell (Wanda) of Ridgely, George Howell (Carolyn) of Preston and Clark Howell (Mindy) of Trappe and one daughter, Davina McCarty (Charles) of Federalsburg. Grandchildren include; Keri Howell, Melissa Creighton, Jennifer Howell, Heather Howell-Martin, James McCarty Jr. and David Lockhart, also 13 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and many step- great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison St., Easton. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11 AM at Living Waters Assembly in Denton, MD.
