He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward M. and Mary J. Cox; and his wife Linda M. Cox. He is survived by: his sons, Michael E. Cox, Jr. (Janine) of Edgewater, MD and David C. Cox (Mary) of Edgewater, MD; his sister Darlene Durrett (Kenneth) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Michael Allen Cox, Megan Cox and Brooke Cox-Belt (Randy); and his great grandchild Robby Belt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodland Beach Fire Department (Edgewater, VFD).
