He was predeceased by: his parents, Carrie Smith Mathews (Brown) and William Mathews, Sr.; and his sisters, Gloria Mathews Minor and Diana Mathews Nixon. He is survived by: his daughter Teola Blake; his grandchildren, Jasmine Blake, Darius Blake, Demetrius Blake and Dwayne Butler; his siblings, Patricia Tyler and David Scott (Pamela); his aunt Ruby Smith Hawkins; his uncle Charles T. Smith; his siblings' children, Gregory Tyler, Jr. and Leah Spriggs; and his cousins, Reuben Smith, Jr. and Robert Smith, Jr.. He is also survived by other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Rock Church (2764 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037). A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
