He was predeceased by: his parents, Josef Appelt and Anni Appelt (Fischer); and his sister Margarete "Gretl" Kober. He is survived by: his wife Herta Appelt (Ludwig); his children, Daniela Caughron (Bill) and Christopher Appelt (Lianne); and his grandchildren, Juliane Appelt (Abbey Appelt), Nate Caughron, Elena Appelt, Logan Appelt and Kaela Appelt.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Abingdon-McComas Family Funeral Homes (1317 Cokesbury Rd, Abingdon, MD 21009). A Mass was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the St. Stephen Catholic Church (8030 Bradshaw Rd, Kingsville, MD 21087). A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Bel Air Memorial Gardens (809 Rock Spring Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014).
