She was predeceased by: her parents, Leroy Hassell and Nannie Johnson Hassell; her brothers, Donald Hassell and Leroy Hassell Jr.; and her sisters-in-law, Violet Hassell and Beulah Hassell.
She is survived by: her husband Wendel J. Schmitt; her children, Laura Schmitt of Newark, DE, Nancy Mackey of Stillwater, NJ and David Schmitt of Swiftwater, PA; her grandchildren, David, Sarah and Beth; her brother William Hassell (Linda) of Pasadena, MD; and her nephew Donald Hassell (Kathy) of League City, TX..
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church (454 Bow St, Elkton, MD 21921). A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery (454 Bow St, Elkton, MD 21921).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Outreach or Immaculate Conception Church, at the above listed address.
