She is survived by : her husband Willis Garnett Sr.; her siblings, Robert Johnson Jr., Sheila Brooks (Gregory) and Lisa Moore (Clyde); her daughter Sharina Johnson; her stepchildren, Willis Garnett Jr., Aaron Garnett (Turquoise) and Keysha Garnett; her sisters-in-law, Marion Baynard (Abby) and Philistine Malveaux; her uncle Nathaniel Johnson; her aunt Margaret "Betty" Sewell; her friends, Joan Banks and Elizabeth Bond; and her nephew George. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

“In loving memory of Valerie D. Johnson-Garnett, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I use to run into Val and Willis at the Shell station in Elkton. She would say girl I lost so much weight. I told her don’t you worry about that, God got you ! Her and I always had good laughs while playing our lottery games.
