He was predeceased by: his parents, Rose Marie Holland Sherwood and Willard Sherwood. He is survived by: his wife Penny Diefenderfer; and his children, Tracy Gannon, Tommy Sherwood, Barry Sherwood, Geoff Diefenderfer, Kelley Cummings, Nick Newnam and Andrew Diefenderfer. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and two brothers.
