She was predeceased by: her parents, Herbert Jackson Griffis and Margaret Platt Griffis. She is survived by: her husband George I. Smith, Jr.; her children, Michael Timothy Smith (Kimberly Lippincott) of Frederick and Catherine Anne Smith-Burdette (Eric Bokinsky) of Frederick; her grandchildren, Jack Griffis Burdette and Anna-Claire Smith Burdette; her sister Margaret Griffis Harris (Jay Harris); and her sister-in-law Linda Brown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to the Community Foundation of Frederick County where a fund has been established in the name of George and Carolyn Smith to benefit Frederick County students who are pursuing a career in the medical field, the Friends of Baker Park and the Frederick Arts Council.
