He was predeceased by: his wife Mira Birschbach, MD; his brother Peter Birschbach; his daughter Donna Birschbach; and his grandson Max Cantor. He is survived by: his daughter Jane Birschbach (Arthur Cantor); his grandchildren, Madelyn, Zoey and Christopher Thumma (Cecilia); his great grandchildren, Evan, Mia, Harper and Sunny; his grandchildren, Robert Hokanson, Brian Hokanson and Alyson Kline; and his sister Lucille Birschbach.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the DeVol Funeral Home (10 E Deer Park Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20877). A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the St. Raphael's Catholic Church (1513 Dunster Rd, Rockville, MD 20854). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 3:30 PM to 5:50 PM at the Tvar Enrichment Center (6109 Broad St, Bethesda, MD 20816).
