She was predeceased by : her mother Marguerite Parkinson; her brother Gregory Watson; and her granddaughters, Abigail and Eleanor Splawn. She is survived by : her husband Martin Lee Wake; her daughters, Heather Anne Splawn and Megan Wake Cruz; and her siblings, Robert Watson, Susan Johnson, Clayton Watson and Donna Parkinson.

“I had the wonderful opportunity to get to know Karen a little bit at a time over many years when she would come to Raleigh, North Carolina, to visit Heather and Brooks and their dear daughters Abbi and Ella. I worked with Heather for those many years. Karen was always helping or giving to others, was a wonderful grandmother to Abbi and Ella, and must have been a great mother as Heather is one of the smartest and kindest persons I have ever met.”
