He was predeceased by: his parents, Esther Gertz and Emil Gertz; his wives, Nancy Upton Gertz and Belinda Schwier Gertz; his daughter Lori Gertz Thomas; and his siblings, Robert E. Gertz, Allen H. Gertz, Roger W. Gertz and Betty Gertz Basserman.

He is survived by: his daughter Barbara Lee Gertz; his stepdaughter Tammy L. Samuels (Skip); his grandchildren, Eddy, Nancy and Bobbi Thomas; his great grandchildren, Aubrey and Lorelai; his siblings, Donald Gertz (Sharon) and Joan Gertz Tice; his son-in-law Bob Thomas; and his sister-in-law Muriel Upton Gyory (Jim).
