He is survived by: his fiancée Emily Bowen Gray of Greensboro; his daughter Denise Rex of Harrington Delaware; his sister Mary Hickman of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Quinn and Kenley Rex of Harrington Delaware; and his pets, Mitts and Cal. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

“Norm has been on my mind lately. When Mom and I couldn't reach him on his birthday, that started the worry. This morning I had a terrible thought and Googled him. We are all so sad to find Norm has passed. We have known each other for more than 40 years. In 1985 Norman became family when he married my sister, Pam. Eventually the marriage ended but Norman remained part of the family. Mom and I Love you and will miss you, Norm. Condolences to Emily, Denise, Mary and the kids.”
