He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Leon and Goldie Rose Koontz (Smith); his wife Helen V. Koontz; his daughter Sherrill H. Koontz; and his brothers, Leon and Clarence.
He is survived by: his son Gary L. Koontz (Pamela) of Hagerstown; his grandchildren, Ched M. Koontz (Jana) of Hagerstown, Kelly S. Domer (Kirk) of Hagerstown and Randy D. Koontz of Hagerstown; his great grandchildren, Lauren, Ashlyn, Kadyn, Kasey, Kirstie, Layne and Riley; his great great grandchildren, Charli and Madden; his godchildren, Steve B. Waltrick of Pasadena, MD and Cathy M. Zebron of Sherman Oaks, CA; and his brother Jack W. Koontz (Peggy) of Hagerstown. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was a lifelong member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and Sunday School, serving various terms of office as Vice President and Secretary of the Church Council, and Treasurer and member of the Senior Choir from 1946 until Covid.
