He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Simeon and Mary Frances Abbott (Ruffner); his children, Arthur Abbott and Beth Anne Abbott; and his siblings, Blanche Wade, Margorie Griffith, Elizabeth McFarlan, Jack Abbott, Emmett Abbott, Marion Abbott and Marvin Abbott.

He is survived by: his daughter Rebecca A. Leasure (Cletus E. Leasure); his close friend Eloise Lewis Kline; his grandchildren, Thomas Pope, Elizabeth Lynch and Sarah Grace Stover; and his great grandchildren, Traighten, Hawke, Hunter, Isabelle and Henry. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
