She was predeceased by: her parents, Carlton Banks Hudgins and Mary Elizabeth Hudgins; her husband Albert D. "Bill" Hawks, Sr.; her daughter Cynthia A. Barnhart; and her siblings, Genius Carlton (Hudgins) and Carol Gayle Marlowe.
She is survived by: her daughter Mary E. Barnhart of Williamsport, MD; her friends, Stacy and Brenda; her son C. Allen Shatzer (Susan) of Taneytown, MD; her grandchildren, Neysa Nguyen, Greg Dixon, Phoebe Shatzer and Sarah Shatzer; her cousin Vicki Pritchett of Mathews, VA; her stepchildren, Albert D. Hawks, Jr. (Carolyn) of Elizabethton, TN, Brenda J. Stouffer (Richard) of Hagerstown, MD, Cathy M. Payne (Sylvester) of Berkeley Springs, WV, Timothy A. Hawks (Debbie) of Hedgesville, WV and Christine I. Norris (Doug) of Hagerstown, MD; her great grandchild Che Swayne (Kiana Lane); and her caregiver Rhonda. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, 17 step grandchildren, and numerous step great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Rest Haven Funeral Home (1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Matilda Anne's name to Lasting Change, Recovery Solutions for Women in Hagerstown, to the Parkinson's Foundation, or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
