He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Max Smith and Edna Mae Smith (Harshman); his wife Barbara Smith; and his brothers, Thomas Smith, Arthur Smith and Donald Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Teresa Moore (Daniel) and Jeff Smith (Jennifer). He is also survived by five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
