He was predeceased by: his parents, Guy Clifford and Capitola Elizabeth Johnston; his wife Rose Marie Johnston; and his brother Frank William "Bill" Johnston. He is survived by: his son Ryan Johnston; his daughter-in-law Linda Johnston; his grandson Garrett Johnston; and his brother Guy Johnston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doey's House, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
