He was predeceased by: his parents, George Albert and Thelma West Carter of Virginia; his wife Carolyn Rudisill Carter; and his siblings, Tom, George, Odell, Jerry, Wayne, Charles Ray and Agnes Gossard.
He is survived by: his children, Brian (Lyn) and Lisa Miller (Mark); his grandchildren, Brendan Carter, Austin Miller, Kierstyn Carter-Laman (Jesse) and Ashlee Chilcote (Dylan); his great grandchild Reese Evin Nickolas Chilcote; his brothers, Richard Carter (Marie), John Carter and Ronnie Carter; his brothers-in-law, Roy Rudisill (Mak Tal), Gene Cline and Larry Rudisill (Phyllis); and his godchildren, Susan Goff (Al), Jacob Smith and Jaci Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
