He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleo Artis and Corina Scales Artis Spencer; his son Derrick Cleophus Artis; his son-in-law Charles Brazil Jr.; and his sister Ruby Hoover.
He is survived by: his daughter Daphne Artis Brazil; his wife Gwen; his brothers, William Spencer (Barbara) and Robert Lee Spencer Jr.; and his grandchildren, Bianca Brazil (Alex), Brittney Brazil, Layla Brazil, Darien Artis and Devin Artis. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and godchildren.
