He was predeceased by: his mother Annie Mae Bates (Bartlett); his brothers, Jack Bates, Don Bates and Merle Bates; and his sisters-in-law, Noreen Bates and Karen Draper.
He is survived by: his father William Charles Bates; his wife Diane G. Bates; and his siblings-in-law, Howard L. Graves, Mary Lou Bates and Marie Bates. He is also survived by his family—teaching his grandchildren.
