She is survived by: her daughter Catherine Surratt; her son-in-law Stanley Surratt; and her siblings, Leo Abernethy (Poncho), Beth Patton, Tom Abernethy, Don Abernethy (Scooter), Mary Perry Fox and Cathy Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanie's name to Hospice of Charles County.
