He was predeceased by : his parents, John Frederick Phares and Virginia Laura Phares (Ginny); his uncles, Tom Phares, Donald Phares, Jim Phares and Robert Phares; and his aunt Charleann Phares.

He is survived by : his wife Rita; his children, Arthur, Clark, Andy and Merrill; his parents-in-law, Lucrecia and Luis Alfredo; his siblings, Jody (Greg Gillum), Ana (Chris Lewis), Luis Monroy and Manuel Monroy (Monica Obregon); his nieces and nephews, Jessica, Zach, Christina, Matthew, Fiona, Christian, Alejandro and Valeria; his aunts, Marlene Cullember, Darlene Collins, Charlotte Phares and Gracie Phares; and his uncle William Phares.
