She was predeceased by : her parents, Thomas Laurie and Essie Mae Gibson (Owens); her husband Leon Ray Zimmerman; her foster daughter Sharon Riley; and her siblings, Thomas Laurie, Jr., James (Jim), Francis, Walter and Rosaline Thorne.

She is survived by : her children, Anna (Mike Lyon), Caroline, Alyssa Zimmerman, Kurt, Jason Zimmerman and Shannon Riley (Melissa Freedman); and her siblings, Mary Williams (Betty), Helen Hewitt and MacGuire Gibson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
