He was predeceased by : his parents, William T. Knode and Virginia J. Knode. He is survived by : his wife Mary Jane; his daughters, Kara V. Nelson (Joseph), Tracy J. Edwards (Bradley) and Kelli L. Knode (Keith Alioto); his sister Ann Chaney (Charles Chaney); and his brother-in-law Stephen Jones (Edie). He is also survived by 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and life long friends.

“My condolences to the family of Coach Knode. I feel the need to share this story. It was Coach Knode who taught me an important English lesson. I asked him one day, "Where are my sweats at?" He responded, "Between the A and the T." I looked at him puzzled and said, huh? He paused and looked at me and said, "The preposition does not belong at the end of a sentence, sir."
