It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Walter Calvin Birney Sr. of North East, Maryland, who passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Sr. Birney and Phoebe Hollett Birney; his wife Margaret Clark Birney; and his siblings, Charles Birney Jr., Benjamin Birney, Wilson Birney and Phoebe Murray.
He is survived by: his children, Donna Baker of Elkton, MD, Diane Neal of Newark, DE, Helen "Debbie" Birney of North East, MD, Walter Birney Jr. (Rose) of Port Deposit, MD and Howard Birney (Maud) of North East, MD; and his siblings, David Birney of North East, MD, Lawrence Birney of Elkton, MD and Nancy McCullin of Townsend, DE. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Hicks Home For Funerals (103 Stockton St, Elkton, MD 21921). A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, or to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A. at the above address.
