She was predeceased by: her parents, Hugh Cottrill and Janie Cottrill; her husband John L. Fitzwater, Jr.; and her son John L. Fitzwater III. She is survived by: her children, Frank Fitzwater (Nancy Starcher) and Jann Swiger (Jerry) of Oakland; her grandchildren, Ardra Sharpless (John), Julie Fitzwater (Michael Clark), Barrett Fitzwater, Gabriel Fitzwater (Rachelle), John L. Fitzwater IV, James Fitzwater, Robert Swiger (Michalene Westover) and Andrew Swiger (Kylie); her great grandchildren, Jeremy Sharpless, Julianna Alt (Tyler), Sebastian, Birch, Linus Clark, Meghan, Hannah, Allison Fitzwater, Laureen, Gwyneth Fitzwater, James, Joshua Fitzwater (Kira), Taylor Brady (Aiden), Evan Swiger and Conrad Swiger; her great great grandchildren, Jaylen, Elias, Mylah, Layla Alt, Norah and Lina Fitzwater; and her sister Eileen Riggs of Saline. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 16th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday, October 17th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 17th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bethel United Methodist Church (701 Baltimore St, Mountain Lake Park, MD 21550).
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to a charity of one's choice.
