Chuck Thim wrote a sympathy message

“Gary was one of those kinds of guys you couldn't help but like. I never heard anyone have anything bad to say about him. He had a great work ethic and a wonderful sense of humor. Sometimes we'd be one of the few people working later hours at Dorsey and I'd play music loud enough for both of us to hear. He and I both enjoyed that. We along with some of the others came from the field. We shared that sense of camaraderie. Only the good die young. RIP Newt.”
