He was predeceased by: his parents, Parker Mitchell, Jr. and Virginia Proudfoot Mitchell; his son Joel Brown Mitchell; and his brother John Parker Mitchell. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Pearce Mitchell; his children, Frederick O'Neill Mitchell, IV (Jackie), Parker Mitchell, III (Trena) and Daniel Pearce Mitchell (Tammy); his grandchildren, May Mitchell, Kristina Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Rebecca Mitchell, Parker Mitchell, IV, Tiffani Mitchell-Jenkinson (Dave), Joel Mitchell and Emily Mitchell; his great grandchildren, Kai Mitchell and Zoey Jenkinson; and his sister Elizabeth (Wilbur).
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22nd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Grove Presbyterian Church (50 E Bel Air Ave, Aberdeen, MD 21001). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Fred Mitchell may be directed to support the Joel Mitchell Memorial Fund at the Division of Pediatric Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Please make checks payable to Johns Hopkins University with a memo that this gift is designated to the Joel Mitchell Memorial Fund in memory of Fred Mitchell.
