He is survived by: his nephew Barry Payton; his grandchildren, Latia Parris-Barnes (Antar), Loren Friend, Jabari Friend, Gabrielle Dorsey, Josh Dorsey, Terrence Cooper, David Cooper Jr., Joey Davis, Alex Davis, Jazmine Cooper, Erin Cooper, Amir Cooper, Jesse Cooper, Christopher Cooper and Courtney Cooper; his great grandchildren, Corey Barnes, Naomi Barnes, Grayson Barnett, Landon Parker and Jacoby Parker; and his siblings-in-law, Donald Payton (Betty), Larry Payton (Carrie), Geraldine Payton-Brown and Patricia Hubbard.
He worked well into his eighties and only retired for good during the COVID pandemic due to health complications.
