Larry E. Horton Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Larry E. Horton announces his passing. Larry, 75, of Rockville, Maryland, died on September 15, 2026, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, surrounded by his family. Larry never gave up. He wanted to keep fighting to the end, and he did.
Larry was born on April 30, 1951, to Lee Earl Horton and Anna Horton. He grew up in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx with his three siblings, Joseph, Ronald, and Tracy Lee. From May 1968 to January 1971, Larry proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He went on to attend undergraduate studies at DeVry University, but left before completing his degree in order to support his family.
After his service, Larry met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Sullivan Horton. Together they built a family and raised two sons, Larry D. and Christian K., as well as Big Little; Sis Whangi. Larry stood by Barbara's side as she worked toward and earned her college degree, supporting her every step of the way. In 2013, the family suffered a devastating loss when Barbara passed away from cancer. Her absence left a deep and painful void, but Larry and his family leaned on one another and found the strength to carry on.
A few years later, while visiting family, Larry found love again with Ekechi Greenidge. Together they blended their families, and Ekechi's children, Nathaniel, Cheryl, and Olivia, became a cherished part of Larry's life.
Larry's protective nature extended well beyond his family, his friends, and his years of military service. While working at a Chinese bank in Chinatown, Larry chased down a robber without hesitation, putting his own safety at risk to bring the individual to justice. It was a moment that showed his employees and his family the depth of his devotion, both to his work and to the people around him. He often said that giving your job, or anything, your full effort was a reward not only to yourself but to everyone around you.
Larry worked for many years as a Security and Fire Safety Director for a number of employers. Colleagues and customers alike remembered him for his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and his professionalism.
Larry leaves behind his sons, Larry D. Horton and Christian K. Horton; Big Little; Sis Whangi; his siblings, Joseph Horton, Ronald Horton, and Tracy Lee Horton; his partner, Ekechi Greenidge, and her children, Nathaniel, Cheryl, and Olivia; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Earl Horton and Anna Horton, and by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Horton.
Larry will be laid to rest beside his wife, Barbara Ann Horton, at Calverton National Cemetery, where he will find peace. In honor of his service to our country as a United States Marine, military honors will be rendered at the cemetery.
