He is survived by: his wife Mira McLeod, MD; his children, Jane Birschbach (Arthur Cantor), Ann Brehm (Stephen), Frederick "Fred" Birschbach, Mary Hokanson (Chris) and Alexandra "Sasha" Birschbach (Steven Olson); his grandchildren, Madelyn, Zoey, Christopher, Robert, Brian and Alyson; his great grandchildren, Evan, Mia, Harper and Sunny; his siblings, Lucille Birschbach and Peter; and his grandson Max (Mira Birschbach, MD).

Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the DeVol Funeral Home (10 E Deer Park Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20877). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the St. Raphael's Catholic Church (1513 Dunster Rd, Rockville, MD 20854). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Enrichment Center in Glenmere, The (6109 Broad St, Bethesda, MD 20816).
