He was predeceased by: his parents, Myron L Ahrens and Joan A Ahrens; and his sister J. Stacy Ahrens DiFrancesco of Rockville, MD.. He is survived by: his wife Janet Sherman of Rockville, MD; his siblings, Bruce (Joan) of Frederick, MD, Keith (Teresa) of Portland, OR., Candace A. Raposo of South Boston, VA, Amy Ahrens of Middletown, MD and Sara West (John) of Laytonsville, MD; his stepmother Sylvia Ahrens of Clearwater Beach, FL.; his granddaughter Bailey Suppes of Virginia; and his nieces and nephews, Michele, Natalie, Melanie, Andrew, Brent, Anthony, Michael and Jaden.
A private service for the family will be held and donations can be made in Robert's memory to the National Foundation for Cancer Research in Rockville, MD or the American Heart Assoc.
