She was predeceased by: her parents, William I. Purnell, Sr. and Nellie Hitch Purnell; her daughter Lana McKinney; and her siblings, Charles Purnell, Sr., Ella Cheeks, Nellie Purnell and Hattie Purnell.

She is survived by: her children, Luther McKinney, Jr., Lenora Beckett (John) and Romanda Jean McKinney; her stepdaughter Brenda Bounds; her sister Anne Purnell; her half-siblings, Dr. William I. Purnell, Jr. and Elinor Briddell (Bishop Marcus); and her goddaughters, Dr. Della Dameron-Johnson, Ashley Wharton and Evelyn Jones. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
