Queen Rita Jo Harris, 79, of Severna Park, MD, passed away at home on March 15, 2025 following a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Baltimore, MD, daughter of Lucinda Curtis Hudson and Alton Lyle Hudson, who both preceded her in death.
Rita Jo was welcomed into heaven by her dearly missed brothers William Curtis Shump and Gregory Eugene Shump, Grandparents Bertha May and Floyd Curtis, and cousin Jerry Stone. She leaves behind her loving sister Sharron Gail Hudson, nephews Vincent Mario Rossi and Michele Broulitte, and dear Friend Mary Enders who will forever treasure their bond and the memories.
Rita was the cherished mother of Robert Linwood Harris III and Rachael Jo Truitt. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Brandi Marie Stansbury , Robert Linwood Harris IV, Alyssa Marie Unangst, and Serenity "Zepplynn" Truitt. Rita also touched the lives of all of her great-grandchildren; Tyson Nemrrow , Tylee Jamar Stansbury, Tahki Lamar Stansbury, Trinity Marie Connell, Miya Unangst, Dakotah Unangst, Hayden Sophia Edwards, Vincent Edwards, Eli Hudson Sanbower, Octavius Unangst, Robert (Quin) Linwood Harris V and her great-great-grandchild Wynter Rose Connell. Her family was her greatest joy, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being. She is also survived by her beloved aunt, Rosemary Riessig.
A Remarkable Woman, Rita excelled in life obtaining an Associates Degree and worked Engineering Lab at Northrop Grumman where she started in 1967 as an assembler worked her way up to very respected Lead Engineering Lab manger for 44 years retiring in July, 2011.
She loved to travel, spend time with her family, study her genealogy and always took too many photos— though today, we're really glad she did.
Rita's warmth and kindness extended beyond her family. And while there is no arrangement of words that can adequately convey the impact of losing her, she will always be remembered as the "Friendliest Loving Person in the Room".
Her generous spirit touched the lives of many, and her legacy of compassion will be by all who knew her will be a lifetime blessing.
