Though Shirley may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Shirley touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Frederick A. Poore and Marvell A. Tapscott; her husband John P. McCarthy; and her sons, Keith and Kevin McCarthy.

She is survived by: her siblings, Bruce Poore of Blanch, NC, Tammy Poore of Edgewater, MD and Gary Poore of Edgewater, MD; and her grandson Anthony McCarthy of Thurmont, MD.

A celebration of life was held on Friday, March 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory (2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037). A funeral service was held on Friday, March 21st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
