“I have great memories of Uncle Vern. My oldest son David (from Alabama) met Vern and he talked sports with David for at least 45 minutes, soaking up Vern’s love and knowledge of sports. David was amazed at how many very old baseball cards and memorabilia that Vern has collected. Uncle Vern was like an encyclopedia of sports knowledge. I remember back in 1982 he, along with my Uncle Jim came down from Illinois to watch the Illinois-Alabama game when Bear Bryant coached his last game. I remember my uncle Vern hit it off well with my neighbors down here in Alabama. Miss you Uncle Vern!”
