He was predeceased by: his daughter JoAnn Grooms; his son-in-law Robert Mathews; his parents, Virginia Despeaux and John Howard Leroy Despeaux; and his sister Jeanne Breeden.
He is survived by: his wife Joan; his children, Cyreasa Sprankle (Danny), Craig Despeaux (Nancy), Anne Reaver (Matt), Bryant Despeaux (Marjie) and Renee Mathews; his son-in-law Bill Grooms; and his sister Christina Hurley. He is also survived by grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
