With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Michael E. Rakes of Thurmont, Maryland, who passed away on November 3, 2025 at the age of 72. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Michael E. Rakes to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil D. Rakes and Evelyn M. Rakes (Miller); and his son-in-law Mike Pepper. He is survived by: his wife Linda Sue Rakes; his children, Michael Rakes II (Casey) of Thurmont and Rebecca Sanders of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Hannah, Colby, Wyatt, Tyler, Emma, Owen, Riley and Natalie; his great grandchildren, Waylon, Carter, Dallas and Hudson; and his siblings, Joan, Ann, Gene and Sam.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, November 7th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Pioneer Baptist Church (13802 Long Rd, Thurmont, MD 21788). A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
