He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Whittington Lewis Nelson, Sr. and Violet White Nelson; his granddaughters, Anita and DesMarets Dyer; and his siblings, Leila N. Adams and Oscar W. Nelson, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Shelley Nelson Dyer (Wilfred Dyer III) of Nanticoke, MD and Patrick Edmund Nelson (Deborah Hart Nelson); and his grandchildren, Wilfred Dyer IV (Nikki), Amanda Kate McCloskey (Joe), Katharine Sprinkel (Jay), Dr. Nelson Dyer (Kate), Corbett Harp (Jonathan) and Emily Nelson (Robert). He is also survived by great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be sent in lieu of flowers to the Maryland Historical Society, now known as The Maryland Center for History and Culture, Towson United Methodist Church, Mercy Ridge Retirement Community, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
