He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Smith and Rachael Hawkins; and his wife Emma L. Smith (Yow). He is survived by: his children, Reginald B. Smith, Westerfield Hayes Sr. (Lozine), Jeanette M. Burr (Curtis), Dannie D. Smith-Newby (Walter), Rachael E. Smith, Pamela R. Smith and Patricia Houser (Jerome). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
